SUBCLASS 189
SKILLED – INDEPENDENT VISA

Details

This is a permanent visa which enables invited skilled workers to permanently live, work and study anywhere in Australia as permanent residents. It is suitable for skilled workers who do not have a sponsor or nominator. Skilled workers can apply for this visa via one of the three streams – Points-tested stream, New Zealand stream, or Hong Kong stream.

SUBCLASS 190
SKILLED NOMINATED VISA

Details

This permanent visa allows skilled workers who is nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency (ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, and WA) to live, work and study permanently in Australia as permanent residents.

SUBCLASS 491
SKILLED WORK REGIONAL (PROVISIONAL) VISA

Details

This temporary visa allows skilled workers to live, work and study in a designated regional area of Australia for 5 years. You can travel to and from Australia freely within the visa’s validity. After holding this visa for 3 years from the date of visa grant, you can apply for permanent residence.

What is a points-tested visa?

Certain factors of the applicants are assessed and awarded in points. Their points must reach the minimum of the qualifying score to acquire the eligibility.

What is the process of non-sponsored visas?

  1. Check your eligibility
  2. Submit an expression of interest (EOI)
  3. Wait for invitation to apply for visa
  4. Collect and submit evidence
  5. Apply for visa within 60 days of invitation

Do I need a sponsor for subclasses 189, 190, and 491?

Subclasses 189, 190, and 491 do not require a sponsor. Nonetheless, subclasses 190 and 491 require a nominator being a state or territory government agency. If you have an eligible relative who lives in a designated regional area and are interested in applying for a subclass 491, you can be sponsored by your relative.

What is a positive skills assessment?

It is official evidence demonstrating that you meet the Australian occupational standards.

How does invitation process work?

The highest ranked points score will be invited to apply for their visa first. For equal points scores applicants, the date and time of the EOI lodgement is used to determine who will be invited. The EOI with earlier submission will be invited before the applicants with later date/time of submission.

How often are the invitations for subclasses 189, 190, and 491?

Invitation rounds of subclass 189 is upon the departmental invitation rounds. Whereas invitation rounds of subclasses 190 and 491 are run by state or territory governments. All invitations are run periodically during the program year.
